UWB (Ultra-Wideband) is a technology that can tell whether a key fob’s signal is being relayed or spoofed. It measures precise distance, so the car knows whether the key fob is genuinely close or not. Cars with UWB are effectively protected against car relay theft.
The downsides are that it can’t be retrofitted, is mainly on newer or higher-end models, and it will take several years before it becomes common on all new cars.
Manufacturers rarely publish clear information about which models include UWB or motion sensor key fobs, which doesn’t help owners trying to protect themselves.
